Wheat bag causes issues at Glen Waverley nursing home

A smoke detector and the quick response of MFB firefighters has averted disaster in a 40 bed nursing home in Glen Waverley.

A fire indicator panel was activated by a smoke detector in the room of a nursing home at 1:20am. Firefighters were on scene within minutes and were directed to the room as occupants were being evacuated by quick thinking staff. Firefighters found a wheat bag on fire on a window sill and directly beneath curtains. It’s believed the wheat bag had been heated in a microwave but was too hot, so it was placed on the window sill. The wheat bag remains were disposed of by firefighters, revealing heat damage.
